Female car shoppers often complain that car salesmen don't and won't take them seriously. "Why don't you come back when your husband is with you?" is what many women shoppers hear from car salesmen. The car salesmen who have this demeaning attitude operate on the rather stupid assumption that a woman can't buy a car unless her husband or other male authority figure (her father, boyfriend, uncle) is there with her. And these salesmen hold on to this attitude despite the fact that recent surveys have clearly shown that women now account for at least 50% of all car-buying decisions.

So to help make things easier for you, here are a few tips for dealing with the car salesman:

  • Make it very clear to him that you are in the market to buy a car soon -- and that the final decision is entirely up to you.
